The 2023-2024 winter season ended up being the warmest on record. This led to very few days we could safely get out on the ice to fish, or enjoy some skiing at local slopes.
While not every year is going to be like this, Meteorologist Jaclyn Anderson at the National Weather Service Detroit office says that they could happen more often.
“In a changing climate, it means that we see more extremes.” says Jaclyn Anderson. “It doesn’t necessarily mean we’re not going to see extreme cold in the winter and that we’re not going to see winters with above normal snowfall. It means we’re probably going to see more of those extremes coming.”
